Godfrey is the director of the Labour and Economic Development Research Institute of Zimbabwe (LEDRIZ), a research think-tank of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) established in September 2003. Before then, he worked as an economist for the ZCTU (1986-2003) and as a statistician at the Central Statistical Office, now ZIMSTAT.

Edmore holds a Certificate in Banking from the Institute of Bankers of Zimbabwe (IOBZ), a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) Honours in Econometrics from the University of Pretoria (UP), a Bachelor of Science (BSc) Honours Degree in Economics from the University of Zimbabwe (UZ), a Master of Commerce (MCom) in Economics and a Doctorate Degree (PhD) in (Development) Economics both from the University of South Africa (UNISA).
